Brave Curiosity

History moves and shifts across time to form a never ending story of life unfolding. Our ancestors were great innovators, they were inquisitive, creative and curious. They were traversing the Pacific Ocean before other people even knew the world was round. This brave curiosity saw them sail to lands far beyond their imagination where they adapted and thrived. These tales of exploration are not only featured in our histories but are also present in the histories of other great nations of the world.

Our waka were magnificent feats of engineering which saw our people travel to and from places all over the Pacific as simply as we can today. Deep inter-generational knowledge of the environment meant they could traverse the oceans for a multitude of reasons such as visiting relations, attending collective celebrations, and establishing new places to live.

With the migration to new lands came the need to adapt to different climates, evidenced by the evolution of technology and tikanga that were put in place. Tools and information were shared through out the Pacific to help everyone advance.
